Thank you for considering being a referee for RYAA Soccer. We will strive to make your experience with RYAA incredibly fun, successful and rewarding.
RYAA is a faith-based youth sports organization that seeks to develop the character, families, and faith of the communities of East Palo Alto and east Menlo Park. We do that by creating programs that allow children to learn and play a sport, while also learning about the Bible, faith in God, and good character. The key to the program is you, a caring adult that is willing to dedicate time and impart wisdom to the youth of our community.
We will match your experience with an age group that needs a referee. Our teams have a broad range of ages and experience, so whether or not you have ever refereed before, or even played soccer before, we have a spot for you. Refereeing is a great way to learn the sport of soccer and get some exercise at the same time. It is also a great way for teenagers to serve the community.
To help you be successful, we will provide you with:
The things you need to be a referee in RYAA are:
Estimated Weekly Time Commitment: 1 - 6 hours, depending on how much time you want to give each Saturday.
The fall soccer season begins in late August and ends the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Games are on Saturdays and last between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on the age. If you would like to referee your own children, we can arrange that, provided you are able to do so in an unbiased way. Each week, you will be given a schedule that will match your own time availability and the games available to referee.
Choose from one of the following referee orientation dates.
Wed. Sept. 7, 7pm - 9pm, or
If you are a new referee, we will have referee training every Saturday throughout the season at 10:30 am each morning on the field. By the end of the seaon, you will be an experienced referee who knows the rules of soccer, and knows the elements of being a great referee. This is a great first step in becoming a USSF licensed referee.
