Ravenswood Youth Athletic Association
Wrestling

Overview

RYAA Wrestling is a faith-based program open to all kids who would like to try high-school style wrestling for fun and exercise. Everyone is welcome.

Dates

Wrestling starts February 25, 2009 at 7:00 pm in the Cesar Chavez school cafeteria. Workouts will be Wednesday and Friday evenings from 7pm - 8:30 pm. Tournaments are on Saturdays. The season will continue until the middle of May.

Costs

You have a couple of participation options. If you would only like to train as a wrestler, but not compete, the cost is $35, which covers you insurance and membership in the US Wrestling Association. If you would like to compete in tournaments, the cost is $120, which covers your uniform (singlet, shoes and headgear), your membership fees, and tournament fees for 3 tournaments.

Scholarships are available for those who would like to work. Scholarship athletes will be required to come early to practice in order set up the mats, and stay late to scrub mats and put them away.

Sanitation

The possibility of contracting skin diseases, like ringworm or staff infections, are higher among wrestlers than the normal population. In order to help prevent disease, it is important for all participants to follow these rules:

  • Before practice, wrestlers must cover all open cuts or wounds with a bandage.
  • After practice, all participants must take a hot shower at home.
