The EPA Community Guide is a collaborative effort to create a lasting, dynamic directory of organizations and activities for the City of East Palo Alto. The City of East Palo Alto is mainly served by non-profit organizations, so we need a unique approach to publishing community activities. This Web site is designed to let non-profits, government agencies, and other groups enter and maintain their own activity information, and make it available to the community in a central location. This information is displayed for the community on this Web site, and is also used in the creation of printed versions of the activity guide.
This guide is a collaboration between EPA.Net, the city of EPA, various community organizations, and EPA PARRC. EPA PARRC is the East Palo Alto Parks and Recreation Residents' Committee, and is a committee of concerned residents whose purpose is to develop recreational facilities and programs to benefit the community. We do that by partnering with the city of EPA and other organizations to supplement their efforts to create an active and positive environment.
The spirit of this guide is to make it possible for organizations to self-publish their activities and events. Since this effort is currently run by volunteers, nobody has the time to gather and maintain all the information for all the organizations active in our community. Rather, we are hoping that the free publicity that they get will be incentive enough for organizations to update their information.
If you would like to list your organization in the activity guide, its easy. Simply click here to create a new account, and then once you are on your account page, click New Organization to create a new organization. At some point, there will be a new organization approval process to prevent abuse of the system. But for now, anyone can publish.
